Jessica Hooten Wilson is the Fletcher Jones Endowed Chair of Great Books at Pepperdine University. She is the author of six books, most recently Flannery O’Connor’s Why Do the Heathen Rage?: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at a Work in Progress (Brazos Press, 2024), the editor of three books, and winner of Christianity Today’s book of the year award in arts and culture.
Jessica’s love for Frederick Buechner began when she heard him speak at the Calvin Festival of Faith and Writing in 2004, and he signed a book for her — from there, she read several of his novels, wrote a chapter on him in her book The Scandal of Holiness, and taught Godric for several semesters in a row.
