Charlie Clark is the executive director of the Wheelock Society, a Christian study center at Dartmouth College. He studied classics at Dartmouth and law at the University of Tennessee. While an undergraduate, he was editor-in-chief of The Apologia, Dartmouth's undergraduate journal of Christian thought. He was a founding student trustee of the Wheelock Society and has since served as both alumni trustee and chairman. He was a founding editor of Fare Forward, a Christian review of ideas, and continues to write at Fare Forward and elsewhere about theology, literature, music, and political economy. About Frederick Buechner he says:
Of all the writers I most admire, Buechner is, perhaps, the one I most admire as a human being. Love of God and love of his fellow man and love for God's 'holy flirtation with the world' is written on every page. Buechner is never saccharine — the faith is doubt-full, the compassion is clear-eyed, the holiness has terror in it. He took seriously the challenge of a skeptical and cynical modernity, both without and within, and the writings he produced are among the most credible responses I have seen.
