Read Lauren’s article, Easter ‘26.
Lauren Faber is studying theology at Western Theological Seminary. In order to gain entrance to the program, she pleaded that the seminary consider her years of layperson employment in the church to be credentials enough, only later disclosing that her experience was as the janitor. “Signs and Symbols” is her first writing since joining the ranks of academia, inspired by both lived experience and Frederick Buechner’s “The Dwarves in the Stable”, in Telling Secrets (1991). She, like Buechner, revels in the opportunity to spend her life growing in the light of God’s love.
